Week Three

Week three started with a pretty frustrating day. On Monday many people on my team were either in training or on vacation so I sat with my Associate Buddy all day. She didn't have any work for me and neither did my Career Coach. So, I spent the day researching my company, reading PwC articles, and going through all of PwC's resources and websites. But by the afternoon there was nothing more I could think of to be productive so I got pretty bored. I don't think my team has any specific plan for me. I don't really know who is supposed to be assigning me work so I've just been asking those around me if they have anything for me. The more experienced staff have been busy with an internal project that has taken up most of their time and focus so I'm hoping once that is done they will be able to give me more direction. In the early stages of the internship people are just giving me work that is easy enough where they don't have to watch over me or answer a large n

NYC Adventures

On the weekdays I often come home exhausted and wanting nothing more but to lay in bed and watch TV. There was only one day my roommates and I were able to get out and do something. We went to 2 Bros, a pizza place that sold $1 pizza and ate it in a park with a nice view of the Flatiron Building. We then took a quick stroll up to the Empire State Building and through Korea Town. It was my first mini adventure in the city. The weekends is when I have time and energy to do bigger excursions. My first Saturday in New York I spent with my three roommates. We went shopping for business clothes in the morning but found nothing but old lady suits. In the evening we walked the High Line and ended up in Hudson Yards. It was a nice walk that had great views of the city and the Hudson River. We watched the sunset on the river and I loved how the sun reflected off the glass buildings. The next day my two friends from college met up and had a long day of walking and exploring. We started in SoH

Week Two

Week two was a mix of training and being with my engagement team. I went to a training about digital upskilling where I learned how to use some data visualization programs that PwC uses often. I really like PwC's focus on digital upskilling and giving resources to its employees to learn about how to advance their technological skills. I've always been interested in analyzing and visualizing data and  now I can use that in my job. My first days with my engagement team went well. There are about twelve of us on the team so it's easy to get to know everyone and remember their names. They gave me a couple of small projects that I could work on throughout the day with no supervision. The tasks were basic and self explanatory but they kept me busy so I didn't mind doing them. The team reserved a meeting room where we all sat during the day so I got to get a better idea of the team dynamics and occasional conflicts that arise. It was my first look at what working at PwC woul

Training

I just finished my second day of training and I am feeling very tired. It is going to be hard getting used to 40-hour work weeks. The first day was an overview of the firm, expectations during the internship, and answering general questions. The second day is specific to assurance where we were able to learn about programs that we will use. We learned about Aura, which is the site that holds each client's database where we do our audit testing. We will be using this program every day so it is nice that we got early exposure to it. We also went through a lot of other PwC sites and programs including some of their benefits. It is hard to keep track of because there are so many sites, but with time it will be easier to navigate. Being in the city is getting easier every day. It has taken me a while to get used to the subway and I'm still learning which entrances and exits to use, but by the end of the week I should be a pro. The streets and parks are packed and I'm still ama

Finally in NYC!

I have finally arrived in New York! My flight left early in the morning so I got to my dorm room at around 11am. I met both of my roommates and started to unpack. I bought some food to hold me over before I go grocery shopping for real and some toiletries I didn't bring from home. I'm looking forward to getting to know my roommates (even though one is a big Michigan fan). I found out that I will be working in the insurance industry. I will find out the exact client I'm working on later in the week but I am excited to learn more about the insurance industry. This week is on-boarding and basic training. It's not until the following week that I learn more specifics about my client and training specific to the insurance industry. My internship with Crowe was also in the financial services branch, but in the banking industry so a big part of my audit was with cash, deposits, and loans. I'm glad I have the opportunity to learn about an industry I am not as familiar with
